The burets were of the automatic-zero type with integral reservoirs; they were filled by nitrogen pressure and protected by drying tubes filled with Ascarite. One buret (25 ml) delivered carbon dioxide-free ethanol, and one buret (5 ml) delivered aqueous carbonate- free sodium hydroxide.
