Abstract

Cyclobutene-1, 2-dionea and their derivativea have gained much attention during the past decade as versatile intermediates in organic synthesis mainly due to the work of Moore and Liebeskind.'s2 Somewhat less attention has been paid to the benzocyclobutenedione analogs 1.
