Abstract

Selenenic acids (RSeOH) and their derivatives are presumed intermediates in a number of important reactions: selenoxide syn eliminations,'v2 [2.3] sigmatropic rearrangements of allylic and propargylic~ elenoxides,~ oxidation of selenols and diselenide~,'~.~ reduction of seleninic acids (RSe02H). 5, 6 A selenenic acid may also be at the active site of the redox selenoenzyme glutathione peroxidase7 as part of a selenocysteine residue.
