Abstract

2-Hydroxyethylammonium formate acts as a task-specific ionic liquid (TSIL) for the Knoevenagel condensation of carbonyl compounds with rhodanine to afford arylalkylidene rhodanines under solvent-free conditions and in good-to-excellent yields.
