Abstract

Summary 1. The dehalogenation of P-bromophenylpyruvic acid has been studied under a variety of conditions. Evidence has been obtained for the intermediate formation of phenylketene under certain of the above conditions. The possibilities and some of the difficulties of utilizing the dehalogenation of a-keto+-bromo acids as a new method of synthesis of ketene derivatives have been pointed out.
