可由乙醇与溴素反应而得；或由三氯乙醛与溴素反应制取，也可由三聚乙醛与溴素反应而得。将69g干燥的三聚乙醛滴入720g溴及1.5g硫的混合物中，反应在自身放热下进行。然后在60-80℃加热2h，将蒸馏收集的粗品再减压蒸馏，取71-74℃（2.4kPa）馏份，得产品溴醛220-240g。
