X convenient method of synthesis for several p-keto sulfones was desired in connection with an investigation of the acidity of these compo~ nds.~ Since the Claisen condensation of keto esters has been employed to prepare various acyclic4 and c~ clic~-~ 0-diketones, it was thought that the analogous condensation of sulfone esters might prove useful.
