Summary Methyl mercaptan was fluorinated by cobalt trduoride at 250'and by the action of an excess of fluorjne, diluted with nitrogen, in the presence of copper turnings coated with silver fluorides, at 200'. Both methods produced trifluoromethylsulfur pentafluoride, CFaSFb, as one of the products. The second method produced what is regarded as a mono-hydrogen derivative, CSHF,.
