Abstract: The optically active spirans, 1, l '-spirobiindan, 1, l '-spirobiindene, and 1, l '- spirobiindan-3-one, have been prepared from optically active 3-carboxymethyl-3-phenyl-1- indanone, an intermediate possessing centrodissymmetry.
