The reactions of N-benzoylaminoacetamidine (IIIa) and N- benzyloxycarbonylaminoacetamidine (IIIb) with various 1, 3-bifunctional compounds were investigated. Both IIIa and IIIb were found to react with acetylacetone to produce 2-amino-3- benzoylamino-4, 6-dimethylpyridine and 2-amino-3-benzyloxycarbonylamino-4, 6- dimethylpyridine, respectively.
