Westphal condensation [1,2] (Scheme 1) allows the syn- thesis of quinolizinium derivatives from N-substituted 2-methylpyridinium salts with 1,2-diketones. After addi- tions from several authors [3-91 the method seems to be simple and extremely versatile.
