Abstract The synthesis and biological examination of 1-phenyl-and 1-(4-bromophenyl)-3-(N- 2-hydroxyethyl-N-methylamino) propan-1-one methiodides and 1-(4-bromophenyl)-3-(N-2- hydroxyethyl-N-methylamino) propan-1-ol methiodide as model potential intravenous anesthetics are described. A series of 1-alkyl-3-aroyl-4-arylpiperidin-4-ols, their mesylate salts and quaternary iodides has been also prepared and examined.
