Treatment of dibromo (pentamethylcyclopentadienyl) osmium (III) dimer with alkali metal salts of a variety of cyclopentadienyl derivatives provides a simple approach to the synthesis of unsymmetrical osmocenes containing the pentamethylcyclopentadienyl ligand.
