Benzenesulfonylacetone was benzylated and benzoylated at its methylene group through its monopotassio salt to form the C-benzyl and 0-benzoyl derivatives, respectively. The benzyl derivative was coupled with benzenediazonium chloride to give an azo compound, whereas benzenesulfonylacetone was converted by this reagent to a phenylhydrazone.
