Summary The oxidation of anthraceae by lead tetraacetate in acetic acid solution is accelerated enormously by water, methanol or potassium acetate, but is retarded by benzene. A study has been made of the rate of oxidation of several polynudear aromatic hydrocarbons by excess lead tetraacetate in 99% acetic acid.
