3, 4-Dimethyl-4-trichloromethyl-2, 5-cyclohexadienone (I) was prepared essentially as described2 except that the crude mixture of reaction products after isolation in the usual wayB was vacuum distilled in order to avoid the time-consuming steam distillation. 2 The fraction boiling near 135'(1 mm.) waa crystallized from petroleum ether (bp 65-70') to yield I as colorless needles, mp 60-61', in 61-70% yields.
