Abstract: A novel approach for the synthesis of 3, 5, 7-trisubstituted-4H-[1, 2] diazepine 5a-p from α, β-unsaturated 1, 5-diketone 4 by the condensation of substituted acetophenones 1 with 1, 3-dicarbonyl compound 3 in the presence of sodium tertiary butoxide has been described. The intermediate 4 reacts smoothly with hydrazine hydrate catalysed by PSSA in water under microwave irradiation to yield the product 5.
