3 190 MCNELIS VOL. 28 which, after crystallization from ethanol, melted at 216-216'and displayed the same infrared spectrum as the material from the pyrolysis reaction. A mixture melting point of these two products gave no depression. Two dichloroxanthones are predicted by a benzynetype reaction.
