The scope and limitations of a one-step synthesis of N-substituted imidobissulfates, RN (SO 3 K) 2 (R= Me, Et, n-Pr, iso-Pr, n-Bu, iso-Bu, sec-Bu, tert-Bu, nC 6 H 13, cyclo-C 6 H 11, PhCH 2–, PhCH 2 CH 2–, PhCH (CH 3)–, or Ph), starting from amines and the sulfur trioxide- triethylamine complex are described.
