2~~ 7Tridecy14, 6, 7~ uimethyl-5-hydroxycoumaron (IX, R= nrClaH27).-The diketone VI11 (560 mg.) was warmed-, the steam-bath for one hour with aqueous sodium hy-&oxide (1 N, 20 cc.) in an atmosphere of nitrogen.(When air was allowed to come into contact with the re- action mixtuke, the product was a red oil which could not Be crystallized.)
