A convenient and apparently general procedure has been developed to prepare?- oxopyrimido [~, l-hli, enzazc, le-2-carboxylates by reaction of dimethyl 2-aminofumarate (DMAF) with 2-aminohenzothiazole, 2-aminobenzoxazolo, or 2-amino-1- methylhenzimidazole.
