1,3-Dithio1-2-ones (4) are direct precursors of tetrathiaful- valenes that are extensively used in conjunction with tetra- cyano-p-quinodimethane (TCNQ) as organic conductors pos- sessing unusually high electrical conductivity. They are also encountered in certain cephalosporins.2 Methods of preparation of these 1,3-dithio1-2-ones usually require several steps from commercially available starting materials.
