As part of our ongoing interest in the development of new procedures for the carbofunctionalization of alkenes, we have extensively explored Lewis acid induced reactions of alkenes with carbonyl compounds and a,@-unsaturated esters, ketones, and aldehydes. 2 In general, ene adducts are produced in good to excellent yield from these reactions.
