Abstract The influence of the external magnetic field on the product yield in the reaction of Et 3 GeM (where M= Na, K) withy benzyl chloride was investigated. A mechanism for magnetic effects in this reaction is proposed. To verify the mechanism proposed, theoretical calculations of the recombination probability of triethylgermyl and benzyl singlet radical pairs were carried out.
