In a publication describing the use of a phosphonium diaza-diylides or a phosphonium aza-yldiide as reagent for the synthesis of primary and secondary amines [8] (Scheme [2] ) by a stepwise solution-phase dialkylation of an aza-yldiide, good yields were reported of N-alkyl phosphimines or disubstituted aminophosphonium salts, which by hydrolysis provided the corresponding primary or secondary amines. However, this methodology requires the use of strong base.
