(5) The iodo enol lactone 2 is treated with a terminal alkyne in the presence of a catalytic amount of cuprous iodide (0.05-0.1 equiv) and bis (tripheny1-phosphine) palladium (II) chloride (0.1-0.2 equiv) in triethylamine at 35'C for 4-6 h. Yields vary from 44% to 66%.
