A new synthesis of tropolones is here described, represented by the isomerization of 3, 7- dibenzylidene-l, 2-~ ycloheptane-dione to 3, 7-dibenzyltropolone with hydrogen bromide- acetic acid. The generation of the tropolone nucleus was demonstrated in the physical and chemical properties of the product.
