If this mechanism is correct, and if kz and kz are of the same order of magnitude as k3 [CBH&O~ X], then the following consequences can be predicted.(1) As the nature of X is varied, the ratio of unsaturated IV to saturated V will increase as the tendency to chain transfer (k3) increases. Thus this ratio should increase as X changes from chlorine to bromine to iodine.(2) As one lowers the concentration of a given halide, the ratio of IV to V ...
