A series of compounds with the generalized formula RR'PCl have been obtained by the metal (antimony or zinc) reduction of [RR'PCl2]+[AlCl4]-. The yields of symmetrical and unsymmetrical dialkylphosphinous chlorides obtained by this method are superior to those obtained in previous syntheses.
