Attempts to generate Lipshutz-type cuprates of the form R (TMP) Cu (CN) Li2 (R= alkyl, aryl) lead to the exclusion of LiCN and yield the Gilman-type monomers R (TMP) CuLi. In contrast to homoleptic bis (amido) cuprates, where Lipshutz-type structures dominate, new experimental and theoretical data point to a facile equilibrium between Lipshutz-and Gilman- type structures.
