We have synthesized a number of 2-formyl-2, 5-dialkylthio-2, 3-dihydro-4H-pyrans (la-f) and examined their antimicrobial activity. Compounds (Ib) and (Id) are dimers of 2- alkylthioacroleins, which we have previously obtained by the tlannich condensation of the appropriate alkylthioacetaldehydes with formaldehyde in the presence of diethylamine hydrochioride at room temperature [2].
