In a study of the effects of substituents on the formation of substituted phenyl radicals, a series of p-substituted-phenylazo-triphenylmethanes was prepared and decomposed, pX- CsH4--N= NC ( C~ HL) J, X= H, CHs, Br, NOZ, HO, CHsO, CH3CONH.
