Abstract The first total synthesis of cancer chemopreventive terpenyl hydroxychalcone xanthoangelol J isolated from Angelica keiskei was accomplished with asymmetric epoxidation, aromatic C-alkylation and Claisen–Schmidt condensation via enol mode as key steps.
