No general method has been published for the synthesis of 6alkoxysalicylic acids. In particular, existing syntheses of 3- and 5-bensyloxysalicylic acids 132 were found to be unsuitable for the preparation of the corresponding 6-substituted isomer (l),a caupound we required for the synthesis of zearalanone analognes. ...
