Group IVA metallocene complexes such as bis (~ 5-cyclopentadienyl) zirconium dihydrides, Cp2ZrH2 (l), and hafnium dihydrides, CpzHfH2 (8), catalyze the chemoselective reduction of polycarbonyl compounds to hydroxy carbonyl compounds.
