Summary Cyclobutadiene was not detected among the products of thermal decomposition of truns-1, 2-cyclobutane-bk (trimethy1ammonium) hydroxide. Dimethylamine, trimethylamine, truns-1, 2-bis-(di-methylamino)-cyclobutane, cyclobutanone and condensation products of the latter were identified as products of the pyrolysis. 1-Dimethylaminocyclobutene-1 is postulated as an unstable intermediate in the reaction.
