The scope of the reaction of the tetrabromocalixarene derivative 2b with alcohols under solvolytic conditions in trifluoroethanol (TFE) or hexafluoroisopropanol (HFIP) was explored. The reaction proceeded readily with MeOH, EtOH, n-PrOH, ethylene glycol and i-PrOH
