Conclusions A series of alkyl phosphide complexes of iridium (II1) have been shown to rearrange both thermally and photochemically to ultimately generate iridium (I) phosphine complexes. For phenylphosphide derivative IC this process occurs with no detectable isotope effect (kH/kD= 1.0 (l)), thus indicating that breaking the CH bond of the methyl ligand is probably not involved in the rate-determining step.
