The two isomeric compounds, octadecylfumaric acid and octadecylmaleic acid (C1 8H3 7OCOCH= CHCOOH) have been synthesized, and Langmuir–Blodgett films of their cadmium salts have been studied by means of transmission and grazing incidence reflection infrared spectroscopy.
