Abstract: Twelve purinophanes 1-12, in which two purine rings are fixed with different modes of stacking by two or three polymethylene chains, have been prepared by either stepwise introduction of the linking chains or quasi-dimerization of disubstituted purine derivatives. The five kinds of stacking geometries of the two component rings in the purinophanes were determined by X-ray analysis and/or'H NMR. The interplanar distances vary from 3.2 to 6.6 ...
