5, 6, 9, 10-Tetradehydrobenzo [7, 8] cyclodeca [l, 2, 3, 4-de~ biphenylene (2) and 5, 6, 9, 10- tetradehydronaphtho-[2, 3: 7, 8] cyclodeca [l, 2, 3, 4-deflbiphenylene (3) were prepared by a" bis-Wittig" reaction between l&bis ((tri-phenylphosphorany1idene) methyl) biphenylene (5) and o-phthalaldehyde (8), or 2, 3-naphthalenedicarboxaldehyde (9), respectively.
