The preparation of eleven new> heterocyclic-substituted chromones and of five new related chalcones is reported. Condensation of 2'-hydroxyacetophenones with heterocyclic acid chlorides, Baker-Venkataraman rearrangement of the productB, followed by dehydration gave the chromones 111. Base-catalyzed condensation of 2'-hydroxyacetophenones with heterocyclic aldehydes yielded the chalcones IV.
