VI1 trans isomer by vapor phase chromatography and conversion to known solid derivatives5 The stereospecific formation of trans-hydrindan-2-one is of special interest. Preliminary studies indicate that the reaction of I with ethyl esters of A'-cycloalkenyl carboxylic acids produces trans-fused cyclic ylides in preference to the cis isomers.
