Abstract Isoquinoline-4-carboxylic esters 3 and isochromene-4-carboxylic esters 4 have been conveniently prepared by direct PdI 2-catalyzed oxidative heterocyclization/ alkoxycarbonylation of readily available (2-alkynylbenzylidene) amine derivatives.
