The oxidative clearage of CC bonds in indoloquinolizidine derivatives, an intermediate of vinca alkaloids was carried out using manganese (IV) oxide in acetone or chromium (VI) oxide in pyridine. The derivatives can be reduced to the corresponding alcohols. Structural chemical studies were made by means of IR, UV, mass and NMR spectra.(VN)
