The limits of structural variation compatible with activity have been outlined for a new class of in vivo tuberculostatic compounds best described as 1-p-acylphenyl-3-alkylthioureas. Pursuit of these limits led to another more active group of compounds, the thiocarbanilides, whose activity was announced by others, independently, during the course of this research.
