Condensation of carboxylic acids with alcohols, phenols and thiols proceeded smoothly to afford carboxylic acid alkyl esters, phenolic esters and thioesters by using the combination of chlorodiphenylphosphine, imidazole and molecular iodine in refluxing acetonitrile.
