Abstract Reaction of phosphorus pentachloride with thiocatechol, 4-methyl-1, 2- benzenedithiol and their trimethyl-silylated derivatives under a variety of conditions produced chlorodithiophosphites in which a 5-membered ring with two sulfurs is bonded to phosphorus. The other product of this reaction is probably an oligomeric disulfide derived from the original dithiol.
