Abstract: The photochemical reactivity of the di-tert-butyl nitroxide (DTBN) r, r* state and DTBN-chlorocarbon chargetransfer excited states is described. Irradiation of DTBN in pentane solvent at 254 nm produces the locally excited,*, A* state which yields 2-methyl-2- nitrosopropane (1, 4= 0.094) and di-tert-butyl-tert-butoxyamine (2, 4= 0.087).
