Preparations of 4-t-butyl-3-cyclohexenols were undertaken in order to permit study of transannular OH... T intramolecular hydrogen bonding in such compounds. The key intermediate, 4-t-butyl-3-cyclohexeiione (I), was prepared by a procedure analogous to that reported for synthesis of 4-isopropyl-3-cyclohexenone2 and 4-methyl-3-cyclohexenone.
